Potatoes Are In

I spent a few hours down on the plot this Saturday morning and planted all my potatoes out. I’m growing Estima again (see last years plant out) and I’m also growing Maris Piper this year too.

Frank and Dave were next door planting their’s out and they were using a pogo-stick type thingy to simply make the holes to plonk the seed potato in. If my plot didn’t need a good dig over and weed I would have done it that way myself. As it was I had a jolly good time with my best spade digging away all morning - I’m hoping to be able to stand up straight again soon!

Gone To Seed

Didn’t manage to grow any of these last year so it’ll be interesting to see what happens with:

Peppers (capsicums):

Courgettes (like these with pasta!):

Sweet corn:

All currently sitting nicely in some seed trays (with lids) that we got from Asda the other week.

Fruit Trees

Well it would appear that I haven’t managed to kill off the fruit trees as they are all producing buds.

Here’s the apple tree that Fil kindly gave me last autumn:

The cherry tree has loads of buds:

Plum tree has buds too:

Break-in At The Shed

Some idiot(s) decided to break-in to mine and other plot holders sheds sometime yesterday evening. In my case they burst the hasp and staple - the latch bit that the padlock goes on - so I’ve now got a small repair job to do.

About 10 sheds were done in total and other people lost some useful bits and bobs I gather. As I don’t store anything of value (to anyone else) in my shed nothing was taken this time. I’ll have a search for a bit of wood for the repair and maybe find a stronger way of fixing the lock.

Bit a bit of weeding done this afternoon where my spuds are going in - soon!

Onions Are In

Planted out this seasons onion sets the other day. I’m using Sturon again - they seemed fine last year. Decided to mark out the lines (bar one) with string …seemed to make sense when I planted them, but thinking about it today it’s not really needed.

Onion Sets

Spring is certainly here now and it was warm enough for me to take my beenie hat off:

Need to get cracking now with other stuff and more weeding!
