Garlic Is Sprouting
The Solent White garlic is starting to sprout.
I ordered four bulbs from Suttons and then split the bulbs into the individual cloves (which you then plant just below the surface) and I’m now wondering if I’ll end up with too much.

I was thinking of planting some garlic in my new veg plot.
I’ve held off planting until March as my “The Vegetable & Herb Expert” book says plant in March. The book talks about splitting supermarket bought Garlic Bulbs and planting those??
When did you plant the bulbs in your picture?
We had snow yesterday in Yorkshire; do you think it’s OK to plant now?
Sorry for all the questions,
Steve
PS, I don’t think you can have too much Garlic, me and my wife use loads in our cooking.
Hi Steve
This could the blind leading the blind!
I think I planted mine late November.
Fortunately, I’ve kept the packaging from the garlic bulbs and it says either plant the individual cloves just below the soil surface from either mid October to early December; or between March-April.
So, waiting til March sounds fine. I was told that if you use garlic blubs bought in the supermarket you can’t be sure that the bulb is disease free - true or not I’m not sure. I got mine online from Suttons Seeds (suttons.co.uk)
I planted each clove about 4inches apart and about 8 inches between rows.
I’ve subscribed to you blog by the way.
Cheers
John
